Weekend Pass

Excerpt from Measuring For Balance by Author Demitri Tyler

Weekend Pass

Friday burns the week to crust
plantation clothes are peeled
they fall off our backs like chains

We are transformed into black cats
with silken fur that glitters under
the stars grace we grin like we have

One life to live and eight more in the closet
next to the cuffed linked shirts the pin
strips the gator slips the stilettos
the sequin top with fitted skirt

Too tight for slip our chocolate
dipped heaven lies in dark alleys
lounging with the cities fat rats
sharing stories of survival in a war

The truth glows in the neon light
alone with our dreams
we party like wild things
dance like grinding steel

Drink the long islands, cosmos, and tequila shots
laughing like margaritas in a Cadillac
riding free until Monday appears
