Excerpt from “CrossRhodes” by Author Lindsey F. Rhodes
Black Roses
A beautiful tragedy damaging mahogany in the making
Heightened voices interjects the soul into rhythmic shaking
Inanimate objects and fantastic dreams are suddenly the new found companions from lighters to knives to a gun is what one is brandishing
Violent interludes offset by sporadic praises
Intimidated by swift kicks, clenched fists, and arm raises
Spoon fed sweet lies to feed the complacent appetite
Second guessing occurs with the anticipation of hindsight
Thirst for normalcy, starving for love and peace
Body talk getting louder but the mouth remains steadfast without giving a piece of the righteous mind which leads to both physical and mental scars
Still yearning to be amongst the stars
Here lies a lovely woman who was both chattel property and a slave
Embedded by black roses to conceal the tombstone upon the grave
