Excerpt from “Poems Of Redemption” by Author Olawale Famodun

Slave

I am to labor a slave,
Serving with all intents,
Drawing back on what I gave
To gain strength in my tents.
I have no room to complain,
I have but sweat to contain.
The whole world is drooping
But am not swimming in.
No charms in my presence,
But charms of persistence,
And that this being my portion
To which I have no option,
Coerced with such propensity
That the tomatoes I groom
Are kids to necessity,
As the products of their bloom
Remain imperishable
That after life,
even something so capable
Keeps them from being riven
By agents of death and dearth
Which accompanies the earth
Though borne evenly
And unwittingly.
