IN MY COUNTRY
In my country a small girl cooks
One half of a square meal, coughing over a wood fire.
Tummy protruding, she feeds it all
to her three siblings, sick mother and unemployed father.
Her tummy is too timid to rumble
And later she shares a piece of
broken bread with her mother.
Hunger croons to the moon, baby rocks in frail loving arms,
amazing child woman.
