Introducing Nolan P. Holloway
From: New York, USA
Currently Resides: Georgia, USA
Both my parents were from the South but my brother, sister and I were raised in Queens, NY. In a neighborhood of black people who were proud homeowners.
Every summer we drove to visit both my parents’

My Mother & Father
hometowns. My father was from Jacksonville, Florida and my mother from Aliceville, Alabama. My dad graduated from Tuskegee, served in the Navy, met and married my mom and moved up North for a better opportunity.
Proud to call New York the place of my birth; Atlanta is now my home. And this is the place where my gift to write poetry took flight.

Outer Layer
Skin is just a coloring
A reflection of God’s image
But racial tensions keep bubbling
Generation to generation we hope
That we can live together in peace
Mindsets of hate make it difficult to cope
I am proud of my skin
Shade of caramel, smooth candy brown
Feelings of where my ancestors have been
Dreams of bonding to each other in love
Practicing the agape way of Jesus
Staying true to what is above
Knowing that when our spirits are transformed
All the shades will be reborn
Face of the Mandrill
A myriad of colors vibrantly blended
What a lovely thought if people could embrace without being external
Following differences needing understanding
Opening to Love in all directions
Waiting for the feelings to boomerang
Hands raised in reverence
Not to surrender but freedom of submission
Gaining from the loss of hate
Being a slave to truth
Outer continence to reveal what the true nature of the internal could be
Gazing upon the image created in the likeness of the Father of All
Shades of the Same Skin is an anthology of culture. The world is in need of a vigorous seasoning and it is why the poets in this book are willing to share their ethnicity. Each one will give some insight into their culture, music, clothing, food, traditions, and even share a few recipes. Some will engage in unique stories and folklore. Others will take us back to their childhood days and compare it to the experience of children today. A few will even welcome us into their homes to share items from their heritage.
This is also a book of unity. Its purpose is to show that without diversity, the world would be a boring place. Each poet in this anthology has a unique style because of where they came from, their experiences, and who they are. Their words are printed on these pages to inspire why we belong. We are all vital ingredients for the recipe to keep the world stirring.
