Allow Me (To Let You Peer Inside) – Author Nolan. P. Holloway Jr.

Hold the mirror of me

To allow-you to see all

Truth-but lies

Commitment-but infidelity

Swagger-but addiction

Reflections of what was there

Images of behavior reveal some

But other parts out of plain view

so I could play with the reflections

Justified that what is seen was truly me

The dark side just a shadow I attempted to cover

All angles cannot be covered not matter how the

mirror is turned

Cracked-Marriage ended

Distorted-children looked away

Alone to look and hated what I saw

The one who loves misery and pain

Was happy to hold it when I wouldn’t

To gloat and laugh and taut

“You are not worthy”, “Dirty and guilty are you”

Being stabbed hurt my soul

I believed what was shown of me

No escape from reflective prison

Trapped, so with no hope, remained

But remembered someone else looked into this mirror

What looked back was grace and forgiveness

Cleaning compassion wiped the mirror so the reflection was different

Peering again saw me redeemed

Was then able to love and repair the broken pieces

Years have passed and the mirror still sits where it always has been

When my mind twisted what I see-or when someone tells me what image

peering back

Allowing Him to show me how He sees my reflection

Gives me a truth that would otherwise would still be hidden
