Hope Lost

I take a breath,
I close my eyes.
My heart screams,
“Oh, God, why?”

A dark and frigid wind blows
in hushed whispers, it spoke.
“Do not question
the will of another.
Your soul grows strong
the more you suffer.”

My all-consuming grief
feeds the shadows of the night.
Hovering like buzzards,
devouring each hope’s flight.

A new dawn rises,
gently she chastises.
“Your pain will soon be
a memory forgotten.
Every flower cracks
before it can blossom.
