Freedom or Something Like That

When they gave us freedom

And asked us to dance wild

Like savage beasts around bonfires

We did not see the smirk

That rocked the corner of their lips.
When thunderbolts

Reached down and touched –

No – torched our chains into molten

Metal, leaving us scars like tattoos on our

Wrists, we did not hear the chortle it tried to hide
But we danced around bonfires

And thanked the heavens for the gift

Of thunder because they both gave us some

Freedom or something like that.
