Markus Fleischmann is a free thinker and writer who lives in Pennsylvania. ‘A Tome of Musings’, his first book of poetry, explores the heart of a moral being, love and heartache, joyfulness and sadness. His writing is a collection of thoughts and dreams and beautifully spun into verse and rhyme.

He wrote his first piece at the age of 16 and has been actively writing ever since. Markus began writing at such a young age to help combat peer pressure and depression, but he began to realize that there are more meaningful reasons found in his thoughts of love and heartache, sadness and hope, and felt by all at some time in life.   He wishes to connect with others through his words to show that there is no need to feel alone.

When Markus isn’t writing, he spends his time planning future goals with his career, family and his writing and can be often found sitting under a shaded tree in deep thought pondering life and the human heart.

Interview – Book: A Tome Of Musings

Creative Talents Unleashed: Hi Markus, thank you for agreeing to this interview.

Markus: Thank you for this honor and privilege.

Creative Talents Unleashed: Tell us a little about yourself and your background?

Markus: Well let’s see, I’m mixed blood of German and Native American my ancestors root back to the Mexican tribe of the Pueblos of Zia. My career is in the field of General contracting and home remodeling, I come from a big family of 5 siblings of which I’m the oldest.

Creative Talents Unleashed: So when did you fall in love with poetry or writing in general, when did you decide this life was for you? Tell us a bit about that discovery process.

Markus: I was 16 when I wrote my first piece which was homework for my creative writing and literature class after that writing was like my only friend , it helped me get past teen peer pressure and depression. Once I was in my twenties I realized that I can’t stop, it was like my thoughts screamed to be written.

Creative Talents Unleashed: Why do you write, what is it that you’re trying to communicate through your work?

Markus: I’ve been taught by my native tribal family that we have fears and sorrows in our hearts and souls and that writing them in word takes away their form, their ability to haunt us. I was also taught that the written word is a form of magic, a way to meditate the soul and to share and touch the wounds of the soul of others so they may also heal. We often feel alone with our emotions and certain trauma that we may experience either with love found or a relationship gone bad, addiction and abuse, even self confidence and shame and I feel that we as writers have the gift to make those who feel alone not be alone, it’s a way to connect with the hearts and souls of others.

Creative Talents Unleashed: Where does your inspiration come from, what might inspire you at any moment to write a story or poem?

Markus: That’s a tough one, I’m inspired by my surroundings, I’m empath by heart and I write about almost anything I see, feel and dream. I don’t know how to write about a certain subject at a given time, I can only write when my thoughts scream to be written almost like automatic writing, most of the time I don’t think I just write and it kind of just comes to life.

a-tome-of-musingsCreative Talents Unleashed: What was the hardest thing about writing your book?

Markus: Editing the manuscript was a challenge since the English language is my second learned language and not my native language and having to be vulnerable with my thoughts to the public, when someone reads your book he reads you, learns you and your deepest thoughts and desires, knows your dreams and fears, I guess it’s like being naked in front of a audience.

Creative Talents Unleashed: What was the easiest thing about writing your book?

Markus: Working with Creative Talents Unleashed and the professional and friendly supportive team.

Creative Talents Unleashed: There are many authors who say that in the process of writing a book you learn things about yourself. Did you learn anything in your book writing process about yourself, if so what?

Markus: I’ve learned that I have been hiding from my own demons, that what I write about are the things that I had feared.

Creative Talents Unleashed: What in your view is the role or responsibility of a writer or poet, if there is any?

Markus: I believe that we as writers can’t be held responsible for anything but what we write about, our work is seen by the world and we need to be careful not to turn our words, our thoughts into weapons to hurt others.

Creative Talents Unleashed: What are your ambitions as a writer, where do you hope to see yourself in say 5 years?

Markus: I would love to continue writing and hopefully publish a few more books, I believe that in this crazy world we need more love, more stories and tales instead of sorrow and hurt.

Creative Talents Unleashed: Who is your favorite writer or poet? Perhaps you have a favorite quote from them that you would like to share.

Markus: One of my favorite writers was H.P lovecraft , I was always drawn to the darker side of the human mind.

Creative Talents Unleashed: What advice would you give to aspiring writers who have dreams of publishing or making writing a career choice?

Markus: Dreams are the beginning of reality everything I this life started with a single dream, don’t ever let yourself believe that it won’t happen just keep moving forward and never be afraid to ask for help if needed. Writing is like being born, we start off crawling and end up running but only with practice and the right guidance.

Excerpt from the book: A Tome Of Musings

Look Within

Come look into my eyes

Tell me what you see

Do you see my tears or my fears?

Do you see my hurt of the passing years?

Do you see my flaws?

 Can you tell I’m screaming?

Or do you see me dreaming?

I dare you

Look into my eyes and peer

Into my soul

Tell me what you see

Am I broken or am I whole?

I’ll tell you what I see

When these eyes look back at me

I see a spirit that is wild and free

I see a shell of the former me

I see a dream that shattered

Leaving nothing but tatters

But what I see doesn’t matter to me

In my eyes I see a dreamer

Do you?

Take another look

Look deeper

Preface . . .

A Tome of Musings is a collection of my thoughts, dreams and desires. It is everyday emotions that stream from the heart, soul and mind.

Within these pages one may find words of love, the pain of heartache and many other emotions and experiences life has to offer, whether they be filled with light and warmth, or the darkened cold.

For me, writing down my thoughts and experiences is an outlet, a release of emotions that I feel, and experiences and emotions of others.  I am an empath which grants me the gift of heightened feeling in my surroundings.

I am a dreamer, free thinker and a peddler of words.  It brings me such great joy to be able to share this gift with others.
