You’ve come to recognize that it’s not all true.
Your government has, indeed, been lying to you.
The television, yeah, it’s been lying too.
But to keep on believing is all you can do.
Cling to this faith and that almighty hope.
The phrases we praise by oppressors wrote.
And in the shade of a tree hanging rope,
We find the faces of the natives they broke.
They say, “That was then, but this is now.”
Like the legacy doesn’t exist, somehow.
Like we weren’t convinced by teacher’s brow
That the savages were just sacrificial cow.
And here, today, it’s still not done.
They take the most, we can work for some.
The truth and justice that has yet to come.
The freedom and liberty that was never won.
