Author Ryan Vallee – Pissing on the Mirror

When the reflection in the mirror isn’t you,

A stranger looks back, it’s strange to think that

I’m in there, somewhere, struggling for air like

Suffocation of the mind,

Cutting communication like the amputation

Of a mime.

Staring back at me is fragments of what

I used to be, puzzle pieces lost

Along the way.

You patched me up with enough

Piss and vinegar to sting the eyes.

I was weak when I met you,

A wet paper bag that you decided to punch

Rather than set out in the sun to dry.

You loved to tear me apart,

Loved to rip me up and

Loved to cut me down

With your condescending bullshit

It was the only love allowed and

Now I stand in front of this reflection

And wonder how

I could be such a coward for so long,

And let you power this hatred towards me,

Disguised as love, destroying who I was,

Poison

In the form of a flower.
