I Have a Name

We live in a society whereby there is an astounding increase in what is known as ‘the invisible disorders.’ We may be living with one or more of them ourselves, or perhaps it could be our parent, our child, our grandchild or the person working at the desk beside us.  These hidden, or not so hidden disorders are a part of our modern-day life, symptoms of hereditary, dietary, metabolic or chemical unbalances in the body – yet they exist and are very real for the person who lives daily with any of them.

There are many people silently suffering as a result.  They are walking through life feeling lost, unsupported, misunderstood and alone; yet there is hope in acceptance and inclusion.  There is hope when we give these disorders a voice, a name, a face and a place in society.  We wish to create an Anthology, whereby each contributor submits at least three poems or prose pieces, either from personal experience with any of these disorders or are inspired by knowledge of someone who they have known personally.  It can also be voice of celebration for the people living successful, full lives, despite having any one of them.

Proposed Chapters

  • ADHD
  • Anxiety Disorders/Depression
  • Autism/Asperger Syndrome
  • Bipolar Disorder/Personality Disorder
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
  • Schizophrenia

The Anthology will be divided into chapters according to various disorders, so that the reader can identify with the emotions and experiences of what it is to have any of them.  Please be sure to label each poem at the very bottom of the page with the subject your poem is about, so it will be clear, into which chapter your piece is to be inserted.

  3. This sounds amazing! Should all three pieces be poetry or can we submit prose as well?

  4. I wish there was something like this for tv or film writers. I have a tv series that deals with many of these topics and was told just a few weeks ago that there is not a market for it. But I totally disagree and I think it’s a message that NEEDS to be heard.
