She Stands – Author Tracy Seiden

She stands still in the middle of the square when the flowers bloom and nature comes out of slumber in spring, gentle rain coaxing the grass and the trees from their cocoons and wonders at so few souls who walk by to look up.

She stands still in the middle of the square when the sun rises hot in the sky and the landscape turns lush and green and the trees labor to provide full shade in bright summer.  She watches as these souls continue through the days rushing forward to meet deadlines and missing each other.

She stands still in the middle of the square as the skies turn mellow, the sun warm but cooling, the trees sighing and turning the streets crimson and gold. She watches as the souls turn up a collar to the shifting winds and beginnings of hibernation that come with autumn but still do not pause to look up at the portrait in bold colors.

She stands still in the middle of the square as the wind howls and the snow drifts in winter, blanketing the town in brilliant white, silent and glistening in the faint sun as nature sleeps and prepares once more to be renewed.  She watches as the souls shut themselves indoors and long for warmer days, missing the beauty right outside the frost rimmed window.

She stands still in the middle of the square and wonders if she is the real statue, or they?

  1. Stunning piece. So vivid and colorful with simple & beautiful language. I can see every scene as slow-moving watercolors. And with the abrupt change in tone at the end, I could almost feel the colors bleed out and wash away, and everything turn as gray and still as the statue. Absolutely gorgeous, Tracy!
