Children chasing each other in the house
Mom shoots out of her room
“I’ve had it!
“I don’t want you anymore!”
“I’m calling your dad!”
“He can have you!”
Mom did you know I always thought
It was my fault you left?
I was the oldest and doing the chasing
How did you feel seeing
All of us standing in the doorway
As you drove off?
You couldn’t see the tears we all had or
Know it was the
First time I ever saw dad cry!
We didn’t know where you were for a long time
How we did miss you though!
Did you miss us or was it relief you felt?
As I’m older now I can see that
You were always going to leave!
I was the impetus for that moment to happen
Although I’m a grown up now
You see, those kid feelings of guilt and
Shame still come around to hang out!
