Beautiful – Author Shantelle ‘Elle’ McLin

Beautiful is the one who bares their soul

Allowing their essence to be seen in the dark

Their flaws are accentuated through pores,

Magnified are the defects of all impurities

And yet true substance amazes in subtleness

Beautiful is the one who blesses the soul

With the presence of an anointed spirit,

True kindness spreads through their human wings

Their voices are delicate as a song from a dove

Their deeds are unselfish and heart-pure

Beautiful is the one who is not seen nor heard

Although their presence is always sensed

An angel grounded here on earth

One who does not conform to the laws of the soil

While maintaining a strong neck from a raised head

Beautiful is the one not shamed

Acknowledging that we are not our experiences

We are the product of

We are to be built to be broken

To be remodeled and rebirthed in divine presence

YES… beautiful, are the ones reflected in our mirrors

The ones who questions our image daily

And the one who is not afraid to bare it all,

That has been freed from hiding it all

Beautiful is the one who accepts and moves onward

Elle About the Author

Recreational writing began for this author at the age of 9 in journal formatting.  Her creativeness was sparked in Middle school during a notable visit to the library with her best friend. With an outdated range of selections, she instantly identified with the poets’ generations before her; she had found her outlet. While facing great personal difficulties, Elle treated poetry as a feel-good remedy to her melancholic episodes. This would become freeing to a young and timid adolescent, as she discovered her voice. Writing would become a soother and her pen, a microphone to express her challenges.
