East New York – Author A.M. Torres

The projects were home

Dangers would lurk,
Scary on some days;
To function took work.
Halloween eggs
Thrown out of school,
The bullies took part
And we looked like fools.

The projects; their noise;
Beloved cats killed,

Troubled project life

They teased us at will.
In East New York,
The projects we called home,
If only we’d forget
The cruelties we were shown.
With Mom and Pop there;

Good times with them,

The years that flew by

With them not all grim.

With my father’s bird

Thanksgiving was great

With family, there

Then Christmas can’t wait.

My parent’s home

In the area, we hate,

With singing parakeets

Such memories made.
