Pay It Forward! – Author Shantelle ‘Elle’ McLin

As I develop, transforming my heart and mind

My spirit caresses my intentions

This new mold takes form
Coiled and curving, detailed into fine design

For once, I feel complete… whole,

This shining new presence includes a smile

Now brightened eyes

Despair, no longer here, no longer present

Sadness, still in rear view distance,

The reminder of this journey

I’ve fought to be here so many times,

Where glimpse could be seen,

And in trials that never had extensions

It came so fleetingly…

Kept eyes glued to this vision,

Knowing it was in reach, this feeling…

While maintaining a strong fight,

I’ve battled both myself and the world

Combating these evil spirits to let loose of my emotions

This smile is my victory!

These merited wings!

Once, a struggling existence gasping for life’s air

Now I inhale the purest form of this world’s oxygen,

Releasing positive energy through my exhale,

Because I know this story does not end here

Perhaps midway within my living

For no one truly knows their ending number

I feel I have so much work to do to pay it forward,

And never have I been happier to labor

I know what it’s like to smother in one’s own breath

To suffocate from life’s air

And still, have no choice but to breathe in toxins

And now…

My lungs, know what it means to function flawlessly

To exercise its role and purpose

From Divine’s guidance

I’ve died both literally and figuratively

Apart of me was called Home

And the remainder, that is left… has a duty

I Have A Responsibility,

Although obligated,

It gives me nothing but pure pleasure and joy

I was once hopeless

And to the world, I was helpless

But look at me now!

I’ve been written off… forgotten!

Told I couldn’t survive,

And that statistics were not in my favor…

But look at me… do you see ME?

I am God’s Creation

Transformed… both heart and mind

As my spirit caresses my intentions

This new mold takes form…

I Am Here For a REASON!

I feel I have so much work to do to pay it forward,

And never have I been happier, to labor

Elle About the Author

Recreational writing began for this author at the age of 9 in journal formatting.  Her creativeness was sparked in Middle school during a notable visit to the library with her best friend. With an outdated range of selections, she instantly identified with the poets’ generations before her; she had found her outlet. While facing great personal difficulties, Elle treated poetry as a feel-good remedy to her melancholic episodes. This would become freeing to a young and timid adolescent, as she discovered her voice. Writing would become a soother and her pen, a microphone to express her challenges.
