I used to dream of better days
Than the ones I left behind.
I thought if I wished really hard,
They’d be easier to find.
No such luck has crossed my path,
My road still winds and bends.
The gifts I brought from yesterday,
Are angels cloaked as friends.
We’ve all shared our tales of woe,
Childhoods that weren’t so fine.
Pain and more, laid at their door,
That’s their story, this one’s mine.
I can’t go back, nor change a thing,
The choices weren’t mine to make.
Wisdom gained and lessons learned,
I pretend those years were fake.
