Picture ~ Author Liz Newman

The memories I’ve held onto
have become frayed and tattered
distorted and altered from gazing too long at the same picture

My mind plays tricks on what i see
the colors start to bleed
the lines all start to blur

until the picture has become
something else entirely

The memories play back
altered and edited by
my frame of mind
and my lens of choice

Maybe the biggest pain
isn’t that the memory has faded,
but that the picture has changed
into something I hardly recognize

It makes me wonder
did I capture the moment
or just what I wanted it to be?
