Weary – Author Billy Charles Root

The wears of this life are so heavy

And I’m wounded from dragging

Limpidness of arms hang at less than iron sides

Leaded lid sight coverings close

Lungs expel tired sighs

As the day goes on my heels start to drag just a little.

Neck muscles hold the weight of my soul and spirit not so high

But too tight from stress to hang relaxed

Hindquarter tendons become steel cables

Lower core of me finds no rest

Hamstrings pull on sciatic nerve and grind it across hip bone

And walking brings pain

Every step every stride quadriceps

Carry me on

Water on the knee becomes a lake of fire and a limp forms in my walk

Shins begin to ache with the pulling up of my feet

Ankles pop as sinews clamor across bone

The pressure of the weight of me collapses the structure if my feet

As my calf muscles flex like hydraulic pistons

creating enough power to propel me to the next step

Abdominal muscles clinch to hold it all together

While the heart pumps life blood through it all

And I feel it all

My arms still weighted swing slightly opposite the current step

Deltoids ripple over rotator cuff as counter balance mechanisms

And I stay upright

Triceps and biceps stand ready but, wearily so

And I breathe

Breathe in

Breathe out

I am alive

Woven and knitted

And I toil

And rest is good at the end of the day

Ecclesiastes 5:12:  The sleep of a laboring man is sweet, whether he eat little or much: but the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.
