His heart was frozen
It was as if he’d left her
In the desolate atmosphere of indifference,
And in the ashen snow,
the cracking beneath her feet,
there was a steady pull towards the solid ground.
His words iced her out,
making the little hairs on her arms stand.
in the glow of glistening white stars,
That final spotlight to guide her
And in her dreams,
she travels down a hall with mirrors,
so all these truths can stare her in the face.
Then there’s that voice,
that nagging voice inside that says,
” you should’ve known better”.
It’s right, though, she should have.
In the meantime, here she is,
a nuisance still traveling against the harsh winds of winter,
with the raw, crisp pain against her face.
She hears nothing, but the swirling wind in her ears.
Her nose bleeds,
and suddenly there’s a disgusting mixture of iron and fresh snow.
But she’s resigned to keep walking
Because like anyone,
She’ll eventually need to fall asleep.
