I Exist Between Your Breaths – Author Tamsen Grace

I exist between your breaths,

from the moment

you exhale,

until you inhale again,

I cease to be.

Shutters on my heart

keep the world,

from blowing me away.

I find myself drowning

in my own introspection,

sinking into the depths

of what might be,

swept away,

by swiftly rising

currents of fear.

I can not see the future

through the dark veil

of my past,

my reactions and fears

have been taught to me.

The chains around my heart

make it harder and harder,

to breathe.

I rest my head on your chest.

listen for your next breath,

and hope it will set me free.
