I consider things protractedly

and the things I feel I do so

Deep like the black community

used to be and your faith used to

be in me;

But the problem is that you’re

used to being me for all of my

prisons and failed responsibilities.

For the negligence of the love

you’d given me.

The best man has always been

in me, I just needed a little nurturing

and salve on the shit that was

hurting me;

The reason I saw pass your hurt,

you see? I became worthless

for not seeing the worth in me.

The slavers planned laid perfectly.

How can I win this fight to BE in a world that despise and envy me?

I mean seriously, how can I win

When you won’t value the good

In me?

You’ve gotten so used to playing

the Man that sometimes you

feel like a niqqa from the Hood

to me.

GOD knows them niqqas haven’t

been good to me. Like Lawd it’s

True I’m a political prisoner with

Trust issues.

Name a Moor that’s been more

misused than a child who’s skin

tone covers his bruises?

You know GOD will use this?

And whatever GOD has blessed

WOMAN with is what it’ll take to

get a Negus through this.

At one point WE knew this… Our Union for the sake of the

world is bliss and the devil

knows this is true.

So here’s the plan: Let me

Stand the Man I Am but

I NEED YOU…. To BE You, in All that

you do.

Kesau’c N. Hill is an ex-gang member who, at the age of sixteen, was convicted of murder and sentenced to serve 15-years to Life in the California Department of Corrections. Fighting became a lifestyle that would accompany the gang world deathstyle. However, he would soon be mentored by an English teacher named John Murphy who saw past his tough guy exterior into something explosively creative.

He introduced him to the art of poetry and the power of the spoken word. He’d use that power to his advantage when his life serving Life became too difficult to bear. By defiantly writing poetry all over his prison cell walls “meaning” and “Passion” was discovered, hope and a sound vision was realized. Quite literally, poetry saved his life.
