Mothers of Angels – Author Brenda-Lee Ranta

No mother should bury their child.

awake one morning, trapped in a living

nightmare; her daughter had passed in

her sleep, leaving her broken and soul

shocked, forever anchored to despair

she cocooned herself, fervently living

for her daughter’s children, in honour

to her, in reverence for her, through

every year, loving her through them

she was forever changed

her soul was a gaping wound

No mother should bury their child.

dedicating her life to loving him,

saving him, willing him to go on,

to try again tomorrow; then one day

there was no tomorrow, he was gone

he had been with her, contented, life

finally making sense, they were friends

in a way only love could comprehend,

inconceivable that he suddenly died

she was forever changed

her soul questioned ‘why now?”

No mother should bury their child.

Mother’s weeping, anguished sobs,

for heavens ears alone, recalling

their children as babes in their arms,

exchanging anecdotes repeatedly

reliving every second they parented

them, disbelief with each new day,

haunting them; Kodachrome images,

transformed into shells of themselves

they are forever changed

in ways only they comprehend

No mother should bury their child.

They collect pennies and nickels on the

ground, feathers floating about them,

hearing unexpected sounds meant only

for them; as heaven sent condolences

looking longingly at old photos, holding

pieces of their clothing to their faces

in hopes that the scent will still linger;

the mothers of these angel children…

these angels who are forever mothers…

brenda-lee About the Author

Brenda-Lee Ranta resides in Timmins, Ontario, Canada. She shares her journey with her life partner who is a drummer, lyricist and emerging poet. She is the mother of three children, two step-children and three grand-children. She prefers to be less ambiguous in her writing and more direct, while maintaining a lyrical flow in her verse. She holds strong political views, believing in equanimity for all humankind. These views also find their way into her choice of subject matter when writing. She is very sensitive to the emotions and plight of those around her. A writer for over 51 years of her life, she was first included as a contributor to an Anthology, titled, Imperfect Paths,” published by Creative Talents Unleashed Publishing Group. She had a lifelong dream full-filled when her first book Myriad of Perceptions was published by CTU Publishing Group in November of 2016.  It attained a five star rating from ‘Readers Favorite,’ which was quite humbling, being her first book. Allegories – A Thirst for Connection is her second book of prose and poetry.  She is very honoured to share these new writings with her readers.
