Chapter 3

Fall approached, days grew shorter. Brandi felt a heaviness in her chest driving home at night. Belinda was seldom home anymore; Anthony kept to himself, except to join her for meals, soon returning to his room or out to visit friends.

Brandi hadn’t thought about God in a very long time. She had left the Catholic Church after feeling disillusioned. During her marriage, she had faithfully attended church with her then husband and children. Within hours of leaving weekly mass, her home was filled with the same discord and pain. She would beg God to take it away. He had, but Brandi hadn’t realized it. She had always connected with God in a very personal sense, but felt that something was missing spiritually. Brandi slowly began taking moments for stillness; turning inward.

She came across an article on “chakras of the body” and the body’s energy centres. She also read a book called “The Secret,” which explained how to change thought patterns through the power of positive manifestation, ultimately attracting what is for a person’s highest good. In reaffirming their desires, by seeing them as actualized, great things were possible. The power of the mind, the energy it sends out to the universe, is a powerful thing. It seemed a logical theory to Brandi; however, she first had to decide what it was she wanted. “What are your dreams?” she asked herself repeatedly.

As usual, she struggled to fall sleep, deciding to attempt a “Clearing of the Chakra’s.” She laid very still, imagining the base chakra and its appropriate colour designation as whirling in a clockwise direction. She was very peaceful, visualizing bits of negative refuse falling away from her chakra until it was a brilliant red, spinning beautifully, like a pinwheel. Continuing up her body through all the centers, until she had cleared all her chakra’s, imagining them, in a colourful brilliance, spinning freely, clean and clear.  Using her hands and in a waving motion, she imagined clearing away negative energy from around her body. She lay perfectly still and calm.  An enormous peaceful energy ran the length of her body. She was in amazement. Laying in the dark, feeling an inner quiet.

“Is this peace?” she asked herself.  Years of prayers as the Catholic girl, had never garnered such a soulful calm, much less a physical calmness. She questioned her former methods of prayer without judgement, however, a certain awe settled in, having never felt anything remotely this beautiful.

Brandi continued this practise on a daily basis; usually in the evenings when it was time to settle down and sleep. She was reading as much as possible about energy and the body, having many heart to heart conversations with who she considered “God” to be; her spiritual connection with “Source”, completely transformed. She actually felt God’s peace within her. She began to physically feel a tingly, whirling sensation up and down her arms and legs when practicing her rudimentary form of meditation. “How could this all be possible?”
