For a Reason, a Season – Author Brenda-Lee Ranta

Can I tell you I had never trusted many people, but

I had trusted you, fair weather sister; I told you all my

secrets, my pain, my every weakness

Unaware, as you gleefully listened, feigning concern,

feigning sincerity, smugly planning to exploit me later by

ingratiating yourself with those that I love

You told them of my weaknesses, twisting my words with sleazy innuendos; yet urging me to be strong, that things

would likely stay this way – so just accept it, clucking with

your contrived empathy – sorrowful face

Can I tell you, I never spoke of your secret manipulations or fabrications; even when my eyes opened wide enough to

see you were a Chameleon;  Ah! but you knew I wouldn’t,

that I was not made like you

It may surprise you to know, that I forgive you, that we encounter other souls for a reason, a season, each bringing a lesson; so even if your laughs were at my expense, I don’t regret the lessons I learned from you

When we parted ways, I secretly wished you well; I also silently hoped you would find what you were seeking

without giving things to to people for ulterior motives,

with a heavy price tag attached

Can I tell you that, I have healed well.  I trust even fewer people now, but I trust myself, even in fear I follow my dreams, believing that I am deeply loved in the purest way; feeling real joy, real hope, inner peace restored

Can I tell you things didn’t stay the same; they became unimaginably beautiful in their authenticity

I’m telling you now,

but I’m not asking

I’m telling you now.
