My Rock by Don Beukes

You were waiting for me,

Two strangers thrown onto one path

only faith guiding our direction

of a decade ahead –

At first sight

it was surely known

whatever lay ahead

mutual understanding

and shared interests

would bond a union of souls.

When life became frustrating

you reached out and

made me smile

if only for a while

just to rejuvenate

each trial cementing our bond.

Our layers of life discovered together

acceptance of shortcomings a revelation

of fragility and new sensations –

You strengthen me

inspire me

accept me –

You are my rock

of stability and order

my tower of support and eternal love –

You are my present

and my future.

I love your laugh

I love your smile

forever and always mine

to look up to

to care for

to learn from –

My rock unbroken

others chip away and destroy

but our love is cemented.

for us.
