The Chest Pounding Fool by Billy Charles Root

All creation cries out his name

I marvel at the number of man

Who turn to nonsense

And away from the plain.

Not one man can make nothing something

Nor does he know that he is something

Made from nothing

They go to the grave with nothing

And they come from the womb with nothing

And in between they create nothing

But all they ever have

Is given to them

They think they have something

But even the birth of the thought

Came not from within them

Nor does it come from the air

Credit is given to the mind of man

Whoremongers’ selling what was not theirs to begin with

For it was given

And they receive what they cannot keep

For when they die it becomes another’s possession

Which is also given and then starts the cycle over

The fool says in his heart

That he himself is god

As he pleases himself

In whatever way he sees as good

Meanwhile his soul secretly obeys even the basic laws of life

For he was born without the help of himself

And without his choice he will die

He breathes involuntarily

And seeks and craves sustenance

As his very body sneaks in the obedience to life

Right under his own nose

And the whole time he says he is god

I say O man

Does God possess involuntary survival?

This man’s very heart stops and goes as it pleases

And his hair grows without his consent

Yet he pounds his chest

And cries out that he himself is king

How would you know you were king?

If you had not known there was such a thing?

Your knowledge devices you

As your backside is under the lion’s claw

The arrow of the one way sign

Will soon be turned from the north

To the south

And will you go this direction

Pounding your chest

While the enemy of those who know better

Giggle at your decent?

Hush fool

Be still and open thine eyes

There is still time

Just barley but still.
