Red Wine & Violins by Damon E. Johnson

Her heart was committed to another

yet our attraction was obvious to us both

as we quite often pretended not to notice

for fear of being unable to control the desire

that saturated our thirsty bodies without warning.

Denial became useless every time our eyes would meet

and words would quickly disappear behind our smiles.

We were trapped in a situation that appeared to have

only one happy ending. Until she decided to be

a woman content with her promise. While I was

forced to be a man who would have to learn to

respect and live with her choice.
