There I go again
Expecting you to be who I want you to be
Not letting you just be who you are
Knowing that you can’t give what you don’t
have to give
Yet I’m expecting more
Waiting for you to do what I think you should do
You of course don’t; and do your own thing
But those damn expectations, they get in my way
Causing me to have resentments, among other things
So maybe the secret to living together is letting those expectations go
Accepting you for what you can give, not letting resentments grow
Ok expectations, get out of my brain
Let me allow others to be who they are once again
The resentments won’t fester and eat me alive
I just might be able to survive…
