Poetry by Estrella Trevino

He tore down my walls;

Broke through my fortress of steel.

My safe place, or so I thought,

Not safe, a prison cell,

Personalized to ensure no escape.

To see all as a possibility,

Yet remaining in a fantasy land,

Avoiding reality.

He saw all my charades;

They paraded before him daily.

Still he overlooked it,

And with one word my soul becomes calm.

All the years of battle to defend

My vulnerability, slated.

They are of no use, have no strength;

But I do not feel weak.

My fortress may be laid to rubble,

But my heart has been freed,

Dancing in the fresh sunlight

It’s prayed years to see.
