The Stark Reality Of Night by Lyne Beringer

Another day has had its turn
You stroke your aching head
You feel the numb, there’s nothing left
You crawl into an empty bed

Red is the light that’s burning
While shadows tango on the wall
You gave your best, but missed a step
It was hard to watch you fall

They say that one is lonely
And two can be as bad
You already took that bet, had no regret
Cause one is all you ever really had

You look up to the ceiling
Run your fingers through your hair
You state the facts and plead your case
In the form of a random prayer

Sounds from distant thunder
You hope it brings the rain
How did the web get so elaborate
The question’s driving you insane

You close your eyes and wonder
Could you have ever struck a deal
While life was imitating art
You learned it was never even real

An orchestrated melody
A gift from the welcome rain
You fade into the shadows
Not a piece of you remains

BeFunkyPhotoAbout the Author

I never thought the word “writer” would be used to describe me and the thoughts that tumble out of my head onto paper. It’s a new me, giving away words all neatly packaged up in rhyme.

I have lived in the interior of Alaska off and on for nearly twenty years. Alaska gets in your blood. It lures you in then takes your soul hostage, becoming part of who you are, who you become. Every summer, the days are warm, long, and inviting. Tourists descend in droves, racing toward the next adventure, and a rich, colorful history provides plenty of businesses with trinkets to sell the Alaskan nostalgia.  Anything seems possible when you are standing outside at midnight and the stars are nowhere to be found. That is until winter rolls back around.
