Heard a Rainbow by Shantelle ‘Elle’ McLin

Ever hear a rainbow,

I surely would like to try

Would it be a soft soothing melody?

Or a harsh raging sound

Would it whisper lullabies?

Or entrance with me jazz

Would it be that bebop?

Or scattering scats

Composed of cool cat’s melodies

Enriched with blaring horns

Deep bass guitar rhythms

Or would it be that big bang

In the big band sound?

Or could it be…

Some rhythm in my blues

I wonder what song it would use

I imagine the rainbow would be music

Perhaps a song

Or would is sound like the love in my Jones

Angelic or could it be

The Congo and jungle mix

Would it supply my gyration fix?

Where my hips and thighs

Get a high

Off bass that demands

Dancing and winding it down

A little Jamaica in its sound

Would it be spicy?

Caliente hot

That makes me do the salsa

The rumba

Or be a little hip in my hop

A rapper’s delight

Bars that are tight

Could it have a country twang?

With a little Shania Twain

My rainbow would be a mix of all

I think I did hear the rainbow

Because I dance every time it is around

You should be attentive

For it mimics every sound

Elle About the Author

Recreational writing began for this author at the age of 9 in journal formatting.  Her creativeness was sparked in Middle school during a notable visit to the library with her best friend. With an outdated range of selections, she instantly identified with the poets’ generations before her; she had found her outlet. While facing great personal difficulties, Elle treated poetry as a feel-good remedy to her melancholic episodes. This would become freeing to a young and timid adolescent, as she discovered her voice. Writing would become a soother and her pen, a microphone to express her challenges.
