Mindfulness by Debra McLain

So often, life tries to drag us down,

bad decisions, death, illness, love…

Tranquillity, seems out of reach,

dangling from a string up above.

Circumstances change, in seconds,

Joy to gloom, in the blink of an eye.

Balance is found in those moments

when we give peace, another try.

Being mindful of our situation,

brings us back to our own truth.

So often, we shift blame to others,

because it is the easiest thing to do.

Awareness of our own actions,

takes unhappiness back to source.

We can change today’s outcome,

by restoring our thought’s course.

Towards the path of enlightenment,

fear diminishes, blame weakens.

Joy overcomes doubt, love prevails,

in those moments, life truly begins.

Serenity is mine, it is yours as well,

the doors of the past are closed.

My intentions are guided by love,

on a path, my soul already knows.

Essential Existentialism

Foreword …

Why are we here?

What is our purpose?

What is the meaning of life?

These are the questions that have plagued humanity since the dawn of time.

With the recent passing of Stephen Hawking, one of the most world-renowned physicists, known for his enormous contributions to quantum mechanics and general relativity, one has to only look to his astounding life of physical challenges and dedication to finding the answers to these questions. It begs us to continue to look for our own answers.

This anthology is dedicated to what gives life meaning and purpose personally. On a grander scale, what is the purpose of our existence as humanity?  It is both deeply personal and widely introspective; yet it is also subjective.

Various poets share their verse, prose and poetry about what they perceive to be the meaning of life.  ~ Brenda-Lee Ranta
