Newspapers stacked beside piled up mail,
cigarette butts in a bottle of ale
Sun filtered in through the hole in the drapes
The dinner he made is now dried on the plate
His faded old jeans, torn and ripped at the
there’s a stain on his shirt that reads “Lake Louise”
With his chiselled out face and a paraffin smile
He said “don’t mind the mess – haven’t cleaned in a while”
He muttered some words I could not understand,
about dreams and ambition, about needing a plan
When I asked how he’s been,
he just stared at the floor
I gave him one pleading look
as I walked out the door..
